Once, when I was in college, one of my girlfriends was getting ready for a formal. I was hanging out, lounging on the bed (because where else was there to sit in college?) when she pulled from the closet a stapless, scarlet, jaw-droppingly bold-yet-elegant dress. I was surprised she was choosing to wear it and said, rather wistfully, Wow.... I could never pull off wearing red like that.... She turned, and said to me:
The thing about wearing red? You have to be comfortable knowing every eye will be drawn to you.
And she was right. Red is nothing if not bold and strong. It calls to be looked at. There's a reason it's used as a symbol for STOP signs, or to indicate DANGER. It brings to mind warmth, passion, energy, anger..... depending on the hue, the setting and the lighting.
Red demands attention.
For Project Spectrum, I feel that each color has its own creativity. They speak differently, they call to be used and appreciated differently. Each month I am going to let each color dictate what we will be doing here at the Project.
For March, I will be watching for how the STRENGTH of Red plays into color patterns of our daily objects, and see what I can learn from my observations.
I might just be surprised at what I find, if I look with open eyes.
